Bilingual secondary school – the ideal preparation for grammar school

At our bilingual secondary school (Year 7 and 8), we merge the strengths of two curricula: Lehrplan 21 and the Cambridge International Curriculum. Our unique approach not only fosters bilingualism but also nurtures creativity and independence among our students, preparing them for their next stages of education.

Our teaching method

At our bilingual secondary school, we combine in-depth specialist teaching in English with comprehensive project-based learning in German. This allows our pupils to build up a comprehensive, bilingual vocabulary in all subjects and train important key competences at the same time. We therefore ensure that they are perfectly prepared for further education, both in Switzerland and in the international system.

The relationship to practice and the transfer of learning from theory into everyday life are important to us: during project weeks, the pupils delve deeper into the chosen topic in an interdisciplinary and practical way.

The schedule includes supervised study sessions. During these periods, students complete their homework, work on additional materials or focus on preparing for upcoming examinations. They receive guidance and assistance from their subject-specific teachers.

Every student is assigned a personal learning coach. Through regular discussions, they address topics that go beyond the transfer of knowledge in specific subjects. This encompasses for example teaching effective learning and organisational techniques.

Requirements

Children who have completed Year 6 at the Academia Bilingual School or Terra Nova Bilingual School are admitted to our secondary school without having to take an exam.

For all other pupils, we require that they have completed at least six years of primary school. We also expect language proficiency at the A2 level in German and English.

Follow-on options

After completing Year 8, our pupils have the following options:

  • Examination-free transfer to our IGCSE programme and then to the A Level programme. This enables our pupils to obtain an internationally recognised higher education entrance qualification, which entitles them to study at universities and higher education institutions in Germany and abroad.
  • Examination-free transfer to the Swiss Academy Zurich, which prepares young athletes, dancers and musicians for the International A Level while also encouraging their talents.
  • Transition to another international school or to a public secondary school after passing the entrance examination.
